Baseball Playoff Contest

I should've thought of this earlier, but if I did, it didn't come to the surface.

What you need to do: Pick the winners of all four division series and the number of games each series will last. Pick the winners of the two championship series and the number of games. Pick the winner of the world Series and the number of games.

When you need to do it: By Thursday 3 PM. It's kinda messy because a few games will be played today, but, as I said, I wasn't on the ball. Use them to your advantage.

Scoring: For each division series, pick the winner and get three points. Minus the difference in games played. You pick Rockies in 5 and it's Rockies in 3, you get one point.
For the championship series, pick the winner and get six points. Minus the difference in games played. For the World Series, pick the winner and get 12 points. Minus the difference in ganes played.

Entry fee; 5$. Cash, no checks. Stick 5 dollars in an envelope and send it t o the winner within 48 hrs. of the end of the contest. Easy. OR send or give me $5 and I'll get it to the winner.

Matchups are:
Yankees/Indians
Redsox/Angels
Cubs/Diamondbacks
Rockies/Phillies

Make your entries in the comment section. they can be edited until 3PM tomorrow. Your entry will have seven lines and look like this:

Yankees in5
RedSox in 4
Cubs in 3
Rockies in5
Redsox in 6
Cubs in7
Redsox in 7

Tell your friends. All are welcome. The more the merrier.

If you have any questions, ask 'em here. Don't be bashful, now. It doesn't take any special knowledge. Just make your picks and post 'em.

Indians in 5 (A-Rod: 3 for 18)
Indians in 7 (Y'all are a bunch of homers)

Rox in 4 (They got the Mo')
DBacks in 5 (Cubs brokenhearted, woo A-Rod away from Yankees in offseason)
Rox in 6

Indians in 5 (most boringest Series ever).

Here's Joe Morgan, former 2B for the Big Red Machine and ESPN's #1 baseball analyst, when asked for his postseason picks:

"Joe Morgan: That's a very difficult question. No matter what we think we still have to play the game. There could be an error or mistake that changes entire situation. Every team going in has a lot of ''ifs.'' Cleveland can win if Carmona and Sabathia pitch well. Boston can win if Manny swings the bat like he can. Anaheim can win if Guerrero is healthy. New York can win if Wang pitches well. I think the Indians and Yankees are a toss up. If Vlady's not healthy then I give the edge there to Boston. We'll just have to see who comes through. I don't have any predictions, because there are too many variables. There aren't many great teams out there. Every team has a weakness. We'll see which team's strengths show up. I don't think there is anyone that can look at these playoffs and say definitively who will win the championship. Someone has to win 11 games and that's not easy to do."

Red Sox in 4
NYY in 4
Rockies in 4
D'backs in 5 (a bow to the expertise of all who have gone before)
NYY* in 6
Rockies in 5
Rockies in 6 (The Mile High Advantage)

Oh dear, a couple of my picks agree with "Dad" -- is that enough reason to change them?

* NYY wins the 2007 Congeniality Award for having the most fun in baseball

Woo-hOO! Judi on Board! Hey, you should get a sign for your car that says "JUDI ON BOARD".

11 contestants.

Wow. Back-to-back homers for the Rockies in the first. Mo' indeed.

Dad said...

Wham! A homah! Wham! Anuddah Homah!

Now the Phillies are doin' it.

Pretty exciting baseball, ya ask me!

Man, walking home after watching the Phillies lose the first two games of the series is a drag. Every fourth person I see is wearing Phillies garb and a frown. They're going to get swept.

Another entry from Donald Murphy who swears he hasn't seen or heard any baseball since 2:45 PM. I'm accepting his entry as commissioner of this contest. Actually, looking at his pick of the Phillies to take the NL, he should be easy money.

Red Sox in 4
Yanks in 3
Phillies in 5
D-backs in 4
Red Sox in 6
Phillies in 6
Red Sox in 6

I believe him.

The beauty of this contest, my beloved Yankees are out, but I can still root for the Rockies to make me a wise prognosticator -- perhaps not a speller.

Of the teams still in, a review of the lists shows Caleb picking the Indians, me the Rox, and a bunch of you the Red Sox.

Oh, what if the Series is D'backs v. Cleveland -- no one would care, except Caleb about winning this contest.

Ah, the beauty of the contest . . .
