Kirby Puckett, RIP. Johnny Damon, VIP.

Kirby Puckett was, by all accounts, quite a guy. I'm glad he was inducted into the HOF before his untimely death.

Johhny Damon says he was "disrespected". Jesus. He was offered 10M/year for four years to play baseball.

I think he needs to get over it.

Good riddance.

I am quite saddened about Puckett. Some of you might remember me mailing dozens of baseball cards to MLB stars when I was 9 or 10, asking them to mail them back autographed. Kirby was the only star to send it back signed. I loved watching him play, and the '91 World Series is one of my first baseball memories.

I have no comments on Damon. Between him and A-Rod, I'm pretty close to cheering for the Dominican Republic in the WBC.

Any idea why Varitek is not starting for the US?

Healthwise, Puckett got hit in the face in what turned out to be his last at-bat, probably contributing to his high intra-ocular pressure (glaucoma). He also had his morphology and his race working against him healthwise, as he had a hemorrhagic stroke.

What a great face he had. Sweetly impish.

I wonder if they will grow tired of Damon in NY if he doesn't shut up. Most of the Yankees are pretty reserved and certainly more circumspect.
