Coco! Cora! Minky!

What? No one saw the game last night? I fully expected to see SOMETHING in this space when I got up. I told ya, girls are a waste of time.

My thoughts:

A(pril)-Rod is smokin'. The question is whether he can become October-Rod and whether NY fans will turn on him if he doesn't.

Flaherty and Kay spent the entire time talking baseball. A lot was said, some of which I didn't agree with, but it was 99% baseball talk. No promos for reality dating games. I haven't seen the postgame yet, but it will be the same way. If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere.

I'm glad we were able to install Minky at first for the MFYs. Coco's triple wasn't hit that hard, but Minky had sense enough to play out of position. Myers did his job, too.

The two caught-stealings could have been big. Why take yourself out of an inning?

I like having the two Japs on the team. After the game, there are white guys, black guys, latin guys and oriental guys smiling and shaking and slapping and bowing. Nice. Thanks, Jackie Robinson and Branch Rickey.

Wanna know more about the game? Skip the MSM. Read Schilling's blog. If I were Schaughnessy, I'd be scared, too.

I think on those caught-stealings, they were kinda underestimating the backup catcher's arm. They were both out by a mile on very nice throws, which Posada probably would have had more trouble with. But I agree. The only one running should be coco, and that's cause he's batting 8th, and he's fast as hell.

How great was it to see him all pumped up after his triple? It's like he knew he was in the doghouse beforehand.

I had the pleasure of watching NESN (thanks, MLB.tv), so I got to miss the quote that both Laura and Luke have IM'ed me. They'll share it soon enough, I'm sure. I do get annoyed with the promos on NESN, but I like the personalities better and feel that they're slightly less Sox-biased than YES is Yankees-biased. Also it just seems wrong to watch YES.

I just watched the 8th inning again. If you're not listening to Orsillo call it, you're missing out. The Yankees announcers probably don't get as excited as I do. Also, do you get a different video feed with YES? Did you see Coco all pumped up and strutting on third? The crowd shots?

Those last couple of innings feel like an October game.

different feed. No pumped up Coco. i like coco.

What quote?

The personalities are different and I like most of them and i certainly like don and jerry. but i also like the more professional and serious approach of yes. much more baseball talk. way more straight-laced. one thing i hate about nesn is the way they ramp up that musical theme for every promo and the announcers voices change. reminds me of the truman show when truman's wife makes a pitch for some hot chocolate drink or something. sometimes they do three or four promos in an inning.

i think lowell missed a hit and run sign on the first caught stealing.

im on moms computer. dont like pushing the shift button.

great game. the yankees are dead meat until august when they'll come roaring back and win the division.

After Mariano blew the save one of the announcers said "You see it once, you're shocked....You see it twice...you're probably even more shocked."
I guess he blew it last week too.

I noticed that comment, too, Laura. A penetrating glimpse into the obvious!

Dad I think our generation is much more used to endless shameless promos than yours. I dunno it just really doesn't bother me that much at all. Sure it'd' be better without them, but I'm not really concerned with it.

Also a big part of the Sox success since the new ownership came in is because of NESN and the huge revenues it brings in. If it takes some annoying promos to do that than fine by me.

I'm sure that Lowell missed a hit and run sign on the Drew caught stealing play. Drew barely got a jump. Either that or Drew missed a steal sign and thought it was a hit and run. I think the first situation happens more often than the second one though.

I think Kay and Flaherty are excellent. On the other hand, yeah they talk about baseball the whole time, but a lot of it is bull. That's hohw most baseball announcers are, Joe Morgan being the worst of them all. I'm glad that Remy and Orsillo don't try to sound like experts by making up stupid stuff about baseball for 3 hours straight.

speaking of Joe Morgan - some of you might really enjoy firejoemorgan.com.

They site started as an anti-Joe Morgan site, but has moved more towards general criticism of all sports journalism and broadcasting. My favorite parts are when they dissect Joe Morgan's chats on ESPN.com, which have to be the most inane ramblings I've ever seen. There's one of those a couple posts down. Also, for fun, well-written (though sometimes maybe a little vulgar) Red Sox commentary, I recommend survivinggrady.com

Another good game last night. I have an exam tomorrow, but also the opportunity to watch Matsuzaka in HD with a friend who's a Yankees fan. Decisions, decisions.
