No thanks, dad, I'll pass. I don't get to watch a lot of TV at school, and I'm not really into American Idol. Partly for the reason that people like Sanjaya can make it so far.

yeah, I know what ya mean. I used to leave the room when it came on. Not my kinda music most of the time. And by the time it got to the finals last year I was no longer interested. But this year there are at least three singers who are as good as almost anyone I've ever heard. And they are still young, and shiny, and doing it because they love it ( I adore Lakisha). I find it kind of inspiring and uplifting. And I like watching Ryan Seacrest, who appears to be one of the kindest people ever put on the planet. Whereas the judges put the bad contestants down, Ryan seems to establish a rapport with even the worst of them and treats them kindly.
But mostly it's just a fun thing to do once you've given up on the idea that music is somehow holy, which I did a long time ago.

As for Sanjaya, he appeals to a certain segment, which is probably mostly young girls. His support will get diluted each week. on the positive side, he is pleasant, charming, and he gets better each week. And he's got a winning smile.

There. Ya got more than ya bargained for, I'll bet!

Hey! Here's an idea: Audition for American Idol next year! That would be really cool! I know it's not your style, but think of the thrill you'd give to your family, Spongy!

I did, but at least it was free.

I could audition for American Idol, but like you said, it isn't my style, and as for the thrill I'd give my family... I think there are more important ways to thrill one's family than auditioning, though there's no harm in trying.
