Hey, Sox Fans!

Does it seem like Gordon Edes is slightly deranged in this piece on Manny? Has he got Journalist's Disease? Is he jealous of Manny's deferred payments? I respected Edes until now.

Does Pedroia impress? I've been underwhelmed but Luke thought he was impressive in Saturday's game.

Should Julian Tavarez be given a chance to start next year? He's been a different pitcher when starting.

Two things-
I'm with Luke on Pedroia. His stats aren't great, but he's hitting the ball pretty well. His line drive/ground ball/fly ball/infield fly stats would predict a batting average closer to 280 or so than the 190 he's hitting now. So it's a bit of bad luck, I'd say. He's certainly hitting the ball hard.

As far as Manny, as best I can tell everyone is insane. He's been diagnosed with patellar tendinitis and the cure for that is rest. You can play through the pain if you wanted to, but there's the risk of permanent damage to the tendon(s?). Given the fact that the Sox are done and have been done, it's very prudent to think about next year. It doesn't do the Sox any good to have Manny playing. They might win more games, but that's not what we really care about. We want more championships, and to do that they should be getting the younger guys some playing time and seeing what they might be able to do next season. Playing Manny makes about zero sense and all this talk that he's dogging it is pretty much crap. It's just inflammatory without having any real substance.

Insane is a good word for it. I wonder where Edes gets the idea that Manny's idea of a good time is to sit on the bench. Manny lives to hit, far as I can tell. I don't read SOSH much, but the thread about this has some pretty good points among the bluster. Among them is that he's played more games over the last few years than any other RS position player.

BTW, who knows why Old Sluggers didn't finish today? I'm cleaning Luke's clock for third place.

The final matchup is 2 weeks long. Which means I've got time to recover and beat Bill, not that I will.

I haven't followed the Sox for about 2 weeks now. Not seriously, at least. I don't really know what's going on with Manny, but I've never taken much stock in any of the anti-Manny stuff out there.

I'm happy with Pedroia, and won't really mind seeing him at second instead of Loretta next year.

So much work to be done this offseason. Don't really know where to start.

Start at vet school.

C'mon, though, vet school? Like it's hard?

I'm sure you have your hands full, and it's not like the RS have been interesting the last couple of weeks.

I almost called everyone last night as Marcum and Wakefield had no-hitters going in the bottom of fifth. Then the wheels fell off for Wake and Marcum gave up an infield hit to Cora in the top of the sixth.

Actually, I'm kinda disturbed by the fantasy baseball aspects of tinkering with the team. So many ex-RS players are doing well with other teams, we had a nearly new team this year, and all the talk is about cleaning house and starting next year with a bunch of new players. It's tiresome. Get a couple of pitchers and move on. (Get Meredith and Sanchez back!) Keep Manny for the rest of his career.

I'll be disappointed if they split up the infield. It was the best part of the team this year.

And if they acquire Gary Sheffield, i'm finding another team.

The thing with Manny is ridiculous. During my Junior year soccer season there were a couple of teammates of mine who said things about me missing time because of injuries. The whole situation made me completely miserable for like a week, and since then I really don't ever question anyone when they say they're hurt and need rest. Gordon Edes is no doctor and doesn't know anything about what Manny is going through.

As far as Julian Tavarez goes, I don't know. If they start him next year, it could turn out well, or he could follow the exact same path that Shaun Chacon followed with the Yankees. I have to say I think the latter possibility is more likely, but I really don't know.

manny is not lazy. He works hard according to all reports. He's just a little loopy. Also, he lives to hit. Hitting balls is what he likes to do. That's the biggest mistake Edes makes, assuming that Manny has some sort of desire not to play.
