I didn't cringe at #3. Of course anyone can get a perfectly suitable education at a public school; you get what you put in, no matter where you go. But since Amherst gave me about 100K, the price tag wasn't much different than most state schools would have been, and the facilities at Amherst were far and beyond those that I've seen at new york state schools. And there are other advantages to a school with a billion dollar endowment and over 100 years of alumni. So, no regrets there.
Good. I hadn't been thinking of Amherst so much as the debt from vet school. The flip side, of course, is don't have an irrational fear of debt. It has its uses, and preparation for a professional career is one of them.
Let us know how the first week of classes went. We're dying to know. Is there an Ilio-Tibial band in the lumbar limbs of a dog, or are you still on the thoracic limbs?

I'm not advocating for this advice, by the way. Just something to think about.
