Okay, everybody has gotten through the first few days of the Student Experience, so how about some blogging? What courses have we signed up for? How is/was orientation? Do we like our new houses? Etcetera, etcetera. Everybody's been doing very well at staying in touch with the Aged Parents by telephone, but we mustn't forget the blog. So, let's see some informative posts or comments, please . . . and no, this is not necessarily limited to students whose last name is Murphy.

We have kids whose last name isn't Murphy?
And exactly who are you calling aged?
Did I say that anybody who's not a student can post a comment?
I don't have the internet yet, so I can't post pictures or anything. Actually, this is gonna say Kendra even though this is Laura.
Life is fabulous. I'm currently having the time of my life. My classes are great, my friends are fabulous, the house is WONDERFUL.
Except I am so cold in the rain!!

Hi family! Sorry I haven't blogged in forever. College is great. It is fun and I love all my classes. It's a big change though now that classes have started from that week long orientation thing. ROTC is very tough. All of us freshmen midshipmen are called "nasties" a lot. We also have to learn by getting yelled at. They don't tell us what to do or how to do it a lot of the time, they just wait for us to mess up and then yell at us. For example, me and a couple of my shipmates had to learn the hard way that we better say "GOOD AFTERNOON SIR" when an officer walks by. Not everyone is mean though, some people's jobs are to be dicks to us on purpose and other people's jobs are to help us out. PT this morning was brutal, I'm just thankful that I wasn't one of the 5 or 6 people who couldn't keep up because they were getting an earful. Overall though it's not so bad and I'm enjoying it. It's all supposed to get much easier after this weekend. Just to let you know you won't be hearing from me at all until Sunday evening when I get back from Indoc.
As far as my classes go, they're pretty great so far. My favorite is definitely Economics. Actually I've enjoyed the first two classes so much that I'm thinking a little bit now about maybe doing an economics major instead of engineering. Who knows. Actually Dad I think you'd really like my economics professor. The first class with him was seriously fascinating. I went and looked up a bunch of stuff that he wrote online and it was mostly really interesting. The thing about my major is that Economics probably isn't considered a technical major and I just found out the other day that I'll get a 10,000 dollar bonus from the Navy if I do a technical major. Okay well hopefully that is a good enough update for you guys. Bye bye.
Oh, how I envy you, Luke. What I would give to go back and, rather than be a sniveling campus radical coward hiding behind "peace" signs and pacifism, be a proud member of the American military.
Remember, they are testing you. They want to see if you can take it without breaking down. Just keep your cool. If they had you all hold hands in a circle singing, "Kum-ba-ya" that wouldn't be much of a challenge, would it?
Economics is fun. It would be a less useful major, however. I think you could use any major as a stepping stone for an MBA. I vote for the tech major but it's your career, not mine. No hurry in deciding anyway.
Good luck this weekend. Stay focused. It will be over on Sunday.
Economics.
Fascinating?
i'd love to meet this man.
