S-E soccer is now ranked sixth in the state.

Go here and scroll down to Class B. Go S-E!

I"m no mathematician, and Rob is away, but with a record of 17-0-1, it appears to me that compared to the other Class B teams, S-E has the best record. Why are they rated 6th? Good luck Luke in the big game.

Claire, I'm no expert, but the explanation is that the rankings are not based strictly on team records. They are established by vote in some kind of poll in the New York State Sports Writers Association, so they are subjective to some extent. In ranking the schools, the voters take into account the difficulty of the games a team plays in addition to their win/loss record. So, if a team plays a much larger school and manages to tie them, that tie might be worth more than another team's win against a smaller school, and a team with some ties or losses on its record can end up ranked higher than an undefeated team.
