September 11th

Well it's September 11th, and I figured somebody ought to post something. Seven years ago today a bunch of backward cave-dwelling savage mystics used planes that they never could have built themselves, planes that were products of a society in which man has a right to exist for his own sake, to kill 3000 Americans and bring down two of the greatest structures man has ever built. The victims were killed not for their flaws, but for their greatest virtues. This is true of both the men and women at work in the WTC and of the countless firefighters and rescue workers who died trying to save them.

Anyway, here are a couple of my favorite patriotic YouTube videos:

You will certainly never see anything like that Whitney Houston performance in any Muslim country.

Contrast Osama Bin Laden's words...

“We love death. The US loves life. That is the difference between us two.”

...with those of the architect who designed the WTC, Minoru Yamasaki:

"The World Trade Center is a living symbol of man's dedication to world peace... a representation of man's belief in humanity, his need for individual dignity, his beliefs in the cooperation of men, and, through cooperation, his ability to find greatness."

Some great images in this video, but I wish they had left out the last 40 seconds.

Thanks, Luke, for remembering. Remember, too, that Mom's cousin, Michael, was in one of the towers. It was his brother's wedding we went to a month ago. His family are people who, afaict, live life to the fullest. And they are people of faith.

Michael's mother is your grandfather's sister.

Never forget.

I believe it, but it means that they live in contradiction to their faith, just like most religious people do. The evangelical religious movement has a very positive facade for this same reason. The religious people are living in contradiction to their faith, even if they don't think so. I promise, however, that if the movement is not stopped then it WILL be taken to its logical conclusion, and there won't be anybody anywhere on this planet living life to the fullest. And I will end up like the fictional character who said this:

"Ah, but cutting out the tumours of injustice - that's a deep operation. Someone must keep life alive while you do it. By living. Isn't that right?"

I wanted to say something about Michael Canty in the post, but I didn't really know what. It seemed a bit strange for me, having never met him personally (or if I did I don't remember it).

Of course, my condolences go out to his family.

I get too furious if I think about 9/11 for more than a few moments. So many great people and great things destroyed for no purpose at all. I could say that I get too sad, but I make a point of turning every ounce of sadness into anger so as not to grant the Islamists even the smallest possible victory within my soul.

Luke, I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Everyone lives contradictions.

I think I was pretty clear.

"Everyone lives contradictions."

Oh? And do their consciousnesses create reality?
