"Mickey Must Die!"

They came first for the mice,

and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a mouse....

What a very silly old man.

Heh. Someone should tell him that Mickey's just a dude in a suit.

It's interesting, I think, to note that all those rules about mice are part of Islamic law. They got there, I'm sure, because mice were/are carriers of disease, and before there were other ways of avoiding sickness, discarding food that came into contact with a mouse was smart.

I just saw this article about this Mickey Mouse controversy, and I gotta say it bothers me a little. The sub-heading "Mickey Mouse is a corrupting influence and must die, a Muslim cleric has declared" is a complete fabrication of what he actually said. It's almost like someone saw that he said "Mickey Mouse" and "killed" in the same sentence and made the story up from there, ignoring the context.

Yes, I know I'm "defending" a crazy man who says otherwise crazy things. I just don't think this is one of them. With the number of times he said "according to islamic law," it could have been said by a religious studies professor. It's completely objective.

Can you tell I have a test in the morning?

Hmm, well actually I don't really think that the headline is that unfair of a paraphrasing. They probably shouldn't have said "declared" because that implies it's a quote, not a paraphrasing.

He did say "Mickey Mouse should be killed in all cases."

In the article, however, they confuse Mickey with just mice in general. I believe that the "Satan's soldier" comment was referring to mice, not Mickey.

I take it that you've watched other videos of this guy? He's a real whackjob, huh?

Nah, I saw the comment on the bottom about the "bikini olympics." And I just assume that any religious talking head is a whackjob.

And yeah, he says that he SHOULD be killed, but:

a. he prefaces it with "according to islamic law," so basically he's quoting someone else and it's being attributed to him

and
b. he says "should," not "must."

And, he says it with a smile on his face.

Just read what he says and imagine it's being said by an Islam expert on CNN. It's detached and objective.

Fair enough, but I've watched multiple videos of the same guy and make no mistake about it, he's an advocate of Islamic Law.

I believe there's a video somewhere in which he debates the correct technique for beating your wife.

Oh, I don't doubt that at all. The reaction to that comment just seemed like an overreaction to me.

Behind Tony Romo as he interviews after MNF, about 30 NFL players are in a prayer circle in the middle of the field. Oh man.

I never thought Mickey was that funny, anyhow.
