While waiting for the arrival of an Amish man from outside Lancaster, PA. He doesn't drive, so he had to hire a driver to drive him the seven hours to get here. They were supposed to leave at 1am. He's hot to buy some cows. I'm hot to sell some.
Luke, in case you're wondering, thanks for the links below. I may have some response at some point, but it's time-consuming and hard work. We'll see.

Yowzah! My Amish guy and I hit it off. he really liked my cows and bought 30 of them. He took several cows I really wanted to keep, and he didn't take much of the junk, but overall, a huge success. They don't leave until the end of October so its another month of hard-slogging.
He hired a slow driver.
I'll see them during Field Service rotations as a fourth year student, I guess.
I dunno. It was 420 miles.
It's 240 from Philly, Lancaster's no further. Weird.
(sneaking one in quickly while at work) I don't think he was from outside Lancaster. I gave him directions over the phone and he told me he was from the very southwestern corner of Pennsylvania.
He had never heard of Binghamton. I had to spell it for him and explain where it was.
My error. He's from near pittsburgh. I spoke with so many farmers from Lancaster area (all named Stolsfus, first names all starting with D) I lumped him in there and it never ocurred to me that of course it wouldn't be 400 miles.
Just had a nice conversation with a farmer from Virginia getting back into it after 13 years. Sharp guy who wants really good cows. Maybe they'll all go. I added $1000 to my original price on each cow I told him about.
Maybe it's time to start pricing the heifers.
One more interesting thing. This man does not farm with horses. He uses tractors. But only if they have steel wheels. WTH? I didn't ask for details. He does hire a custom cropper to do his corn harvesting. Presumably, the custom cropper doesn't have steel wheels on his tractors.
The world is a funny place.
