Well said, Bill.

"If people are getting that upset over a name, maybe they ought to re-examine their out-takes on life, you know?"

-"Bill," the man on the street, when asked by News Channel 9 whether Syracuse's tree should be a "Christmas Tree" or a "Holiday Tree."

I'm glad to see your atheism hasn't clouded your judgement.

I wasn't really trying to make a political point, I really just thought it was funny that he said "out-takes" instead of "outlooks."

In retrospect, though, it wasn't that funny. But you'll enjoy this one, a bumper sticker I saw on the way to work yesterday:

"It's Time to
Trim the Bush's"

Trim the Bush's WHAT? Their hedges? Is W's hair getting too long? I don't get it!

And in regards to atheism clouding one's judgment, this is somewhere where I diverge from a lot of atheists. I don't think atheism can cloud anything, because atheism isn't a thing. It isn't a religion, it's a lack of religion. It's not a belief system, but more importantly it's not a political dogma, and it shouldn't be treated like one. One of the main arguments for atheism is that people use religion as a crutch because they need something to believe in. That message loses its meaning when atheists construct their own "anti-religion," rather than just living a life that doesn't require belief in a god.

I haven't been able to decide whether to respond with, "Amen", "Well said, Caleb" or " I couldn't agree more". There is nothing I despise more than an atheist who acts as if the word "God" will contaminate them. It's gotten so I seek out the religious people and avoid the atheists. (I'm speaking generally here; there are many good people on both sides of this divide.) I really, really wish I could believe, because I really like religious people, but, alas,...

Anyway, you put it well.
