Dad and I went exploring in the southern part of OBX on the National Seashore. We saw this odd object off one of the beaches near the Pea Island Wildlife Refuge, and wondered what it was. At home, I did some research. It's the boiler of the shipwrecked Oriental, a federal transport that sank in 1862.

Out and about
