Cousin Jesse

Claire sez:

That's Jesse in his ironclad called the return of the Merrimac. It had to be constructed from 2 rolls of masking tape and cardboard only. He made it across the science pond and back without sinking. Of the 35 boats only about 7 completed the course. He did not do it in record time but he had a blast.

Krauthammer speaks for me

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/06/02/AR2005060201750.html

I mean, what kind of a sadistic creep would flush a Kuran down the toilet? It's a short step from there to making the prisoners chew with their mouths closed.

Fawn update

The abandoned fawn remained abandoned the next day, and was spotted bouncing from cow to cow saying, "Are you my Mom?" The cows said, "Get this undersized calf outahere!" So we did, while the fawn hollered and panted and thrashed its little feet around. Mom called a bunch of "Wildlife Rescuers" a bunch of times, and mostly they had too many other important things going on, such as vacations. finally, she got hold of a real wildlife nut in Oneonta, if you know the kind of person I mean, bless her heart. Laura delivered the fawn there on Wednesday evening. Mom is headed to Stanfordville now and was planning on stopping to see the little bastard.

It's June!

Which is Male Nurses' Month, right? So make your plans for celebrations early. Don't wait until the last minute. And remember, if it goes well, it will be extended into July.

Dad and Lydia (a nurse Dad works with who loves animals and found us some goat's milk) get the fawn to drink a little bit.  Posted by Hello

Look what Dad found in 8L!

It was there, all by itself, at five o'clock. Dad and I walked back up there just now, at about 9, and it was still there, curled up in the grass in the middle of the pasture, perfectly content and comfortable and showing no fear. I called Marsha Guzewich at the Rogers Center and she said the rule is "if you care, leave it there." She says this is normal behavior and the mother will come back to it soon. We aren't so sure--the fawn is in a very exposed location in short grass nowhere near the edge of the field; it doesn't seem like a likely place for the mother deer to leave it. But we'll see if it's still there in the morning and, if so, maybe try to contact a wildlife rehabilitator. Panda was very good! Posted by Hello
