At work yesterday one girl was talking about why she didn't eat veal.I guess on a car ride she saw a truck with baby cows sticking their noses out of the boards go by and the bumper sticker on the back said "Last Ride". All of the men in the office thought it was hilarious, and all of us females were shocked.
I don't think I could eat veal. Baby cows are so cute. But back when I had to bottle feed them I bet I felt differently. They were biters.
Laura did you ever the South Park episode where the boys kidnap a bunch of veal calves and barricade themselves in Kyle's room with them? In the end, they convince the FDA to require veal to be called "Tortured baby cow meat," putting all the veal farmers out of business. Then their parents take them out for burgers.
You can either eat the veal calves or they will be "disposed of" shortly after birth. Or I suppose they could go to one of the Happy Bull Ranches that are springing up everywhere. Though I do hear that they are starting to get crowded. And there have been some terrible injuries to the proprietors.
Laura, feeding calves is the worst job on a farm. Some of them catch on quickly and are no problem, but some of them I want to kill. In a violent manner. You have to catch them between your legs and force the bottle into their mouths. And they'll only eat if you do that. GRR. And, yes, they are biters. I hate there sharp little teeth.
I don't approve of the "Last Ride" bumper sticker. Crass and stupid. I do hate putting calves and cull cows on the truck, but I haven't figured out what to do with them instead. I suppose i could send them to a vegetarian's house. Heh.
Luke, I'd be too embarrassed to tell you how old I was when I became aware that hamburgers were ground up cows.
Yeah, so veal is bull calves right? They have no where to go. I'm just not sure if I could stomach veal, not that I think its wrong, but I would feel bad. I can't eat lamb either. But someone has too. Feeding the baby calves made me crazy. Not only do they do all those things but after they've been drinking for a bit they will buck their heads and knock you over. I don't like the bumper sticker either. And yes I have seen that episode.
