Santana Trade?

What do we think of this purported Santana trade? He is super and all, but rumor is that Ellsbury could get thrown in for him. I'd like to keep him. But, if we don't get Santana, the MFYs probably will.

I think every adult woman in red sox nation wants to keep Ellsbury, and I bet he wants to stay too. Boston's women > Minnesota's women.

But personally, if we can do the trade w/o Buchholz or Ellsbury, I'm kinda OK with it. I'd rather watch those two develop, whether they're hit or miss, than watch the Sox just dominate everybody (again). I'd like to watch the others develop too, though. And actually, I'm not crazy about trading prospects for a guy who you then have to sign to gigantic deal. Why trade AND pay for a guy, no matter who he is? I'd rather trade for someone cheaper, or wait until someone great comes on the FA market and overpay for him. So, I hope they don't do it.

I almost hope the Yankees DO do it. I'd love to see them lose Hughes, and expand their payroll. Also, it's been a lot of fun beating them when they have the best player in baseball, and it'd be even more fun beating them when they have the best player and the best pitcher. Go Yankees!

I think Santana is getting to be on the "getting older" side of pitching and would rather keep the younger talent like a Lester of Buckholtz. Plus how many clutch plays did Ellsbury produce in the off season-- many, many.

However, if the RS management does close the Santana deal Minnesota will not be liking "us" too much-- first Ortiz, the Randy Moss and now Santana....

Caleb, I resent the fact that you think I want to keep Ellsbury around because he is easy on the eyes. We all ready have Mike Lowell, so the handsome quota is filled. Geez.
I just want to hang on to young talent!! We spent money and time growing them. (Farm system. hahaha)
If they are just sending Lester than I will be less bothered than if they send Ellsbury or Bucholtz. But Lester wants to stay. I don't want to ship him off to Minnesota. Yuck.
