I have a hard time hearing about Pittsburgh without thinking about the old Murphy family joke about the priest and the rabbi who are buying train tickets to Pittsburgh and the young woman behind the ticket window is braless.
Phew, I hope they're right about Pittsburgh, because they sure as hell are wrong about DC. I have no idea what the category "stability" means, but DC is crime-ridden, full of bums, has all timed red lights that last for 45-90 seconds, constant traffic and slow drivers who never use turn signals, is very expensive in every category, has a vapid culture due to the fact that most people who live here aren't sticking around more than a few years, has no tall buildings, and has at best a mediocre public transit system.
In my very brief visit to pittsburgh a couple of years ago, I loved it. Beautiful and clean city, seemed easy to get around. Drove through a few slums in the outer areas, but downtown was nice. I look forward to visiting you there.
I've never been blown away by DC, and I think everything you mentioned is probably true. It seems like the majority of people who live and work in DC (politicians, lobbyists, activists, lawyers, etc) are the kind of people I don't enjoy living around or socializing with.

All I can think about is buying two tickets to Pittsburgh and Dad laughing so hard he'd kick his
leg in the air.
