A recipe for delicious seared tuna with sauce that I just invented and cooked in about 5 minutes:
1 lb tuna steak (ahi tuna is only $5/lb at Trader Joe's in DC)
1 tsp powdered ginger
1 tsp powdered garlic
1 avocado
sauce:
3 tbsp melted butter (unsalted preferably)
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp lime juice
just a little touch of horseradish to taste
Sprinkle ginger and garlic on tuna. Sear the tuna on very high heat for just 1 minute on each side so that it is still RAW in the middle but slightly crispy on the outside like delicious tuna steak should be. Meanwhile, mix the sauce ingredients together.
Serve the tuna with sliced AVOCADO and drizzle the sauce on it. Delicious!

Luke, that's hilarious. Monday night we had grilled ahi tuna steaks from trader joes. I marinated them (briefly) in lemon juice, a spice rub I we got for our wedding, salt and pepper. Kate made a topping of an avocado salsa (avocado, tomato, cilantro, something else). The topping was fantastic, but I wasn't impressed with the marinade. I'll try yours next time. The cheap ahi tuna at TJ's is fantastic.
No Trader Joe's in Chenango County and I'm not sure about the ahi tuna . . . but I'll check Price Chopper.
Wow Caleb. That marinade sounds really good too.
I made something like that avocado salsa but put a diced mango in it too. Actually, if I remember correctly I did that as a topping for seared tuna as well.
The ahi tuna is pure protein, almost no fat whatsoever, so it goes really well with avocado and butter and such.
