Lower Manhattan From the Brooklyn Bridge

I took a decent picture for once....

Fantastic!

Luke, you'd love the view of the drilling rig from the farm at night. It looks like a spaceship landed and built a tiny town.

I did see it at night on my way out driving back to school and it did look pretty awesome. Not like anything that's been near our house before, that's for sure.

EEK! THEY'RE RAPING THE LAND!!!

That picture looks like a painting. It's sweet.

Wow, so much light!

I still miss the towers from that view, even after all these years.

From the foreground, I got worried that you were somehow up in the girders of the bridge to take that picture -- but I looked up the pedestrian walkway on the Brooklyn Bridge and satisfied myself that you weren't anywhere you didn't belong!

I don't think I would ever stop missing them. It's bizarre, also, that it's been 7 years now. Feels more like 2 or 3.

There should at least be some new really tall buildings there in 3 years (takin' 'em long enough damnit!), but I'm not really crazy about the new design. It's a mish-mash of 4 buildings that are all completely different from each other, although the tallest one is pretty cool.

Anyway I think they should be doing something more along the lines of what Donald Trump and Penn and Teller suggested and rebuild them exactly the same only just a liiiittle bit taller. When Minoru Yamasaki designed those towers he probably thought they'd be there forever basically. I would say to make whatever changes technological advancement has made possible but to keep the basic theme the same as the original towers.

Luke, is there a more recent design for the new buildings that I missed, or are you referring to the design that's been pending for a few years now? Last I knew, they'd all but scrapped those plans and were in a bit of a holding pattern.

Personally, I find it really annoying that that empty pit has sat there for 7 years and will probably sit there another 3-5.

I think there are just too many cooks involved in the WTC replacement and they're spoiling the porridge. Meanwhile, the memorial at the Pentagon is complete and open and, apparently, very moving.

I agree that it's annoying that nothing is there yet. The right thing for America to do would have been to get something beautiful and proud and even bigger in there right away.
