e-mail from my grampa:

D called from D's Auto. Luke's dad was an the right track, there was a leak around the head gasket.
D is sending the (aluminum) head out to be planed and pressure tested. You'll get your car back in a week. D also noted a rattle somewhere down underneath; he'll fix that, too. He said the car was otherwise in very good condition.
Your Dad said he'd smelled antifreeze when he drove the car, so the problem has been there all along. Aluminum heads on iron blocks have often been a problem: two metals that expand and contract at different rates at different temperatures sometimes cause the softer metal to warp.

HAPPY NOW!?!?!
