A recipe for delicious seared tuna with sauce that I just invented and cooked in about 5 minutes:
1 lb tuna steak (ahi tuna is only $5/lb at Trader Joe's in DC)
1 tsp powdered ginger
1 tsp powdered garlic
1 avocado
sauce:
3 tbsp melted butter (unsalted preferably)
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp lime juice
just a little touch of horseradish to taste
Sprinkle ginger and garlic on tuna. Sear the tuna on very high heat for just 1 minute on each side so that it is still RAW in the middle but slightly crispy on the outside like delicious tuna steak should be. Meanwhile, mix the sauce ingredients together.
Serve the tuna with sliced AVOCADO and drizzle the sauce on it. Delicious!

A Neighbor
I like the part about bringing the calf home in his sister's Subaru. Lyn was here today and is quite proud of his budding show career.

WTF III
The proposed budget for the federal government is #3.73 Trillion. The population of the US is 312 million. The federal government alone spends $12,000 for each man, woman and child in the country. That's $48,000 for a family of four. This is insane. Who pays? The affluent and future generations. Anybody who works at all loses %14.2 of the first dollar they earn to FICA and medicare.
New York State spends an additional $7,000 PER PERSON! For a family of four, the state and federal governments spend $76,000!

One more
I have to add this to Dad's Dave van Ronk post below -- though I wish I could find the version he sings alone.
Mouse meets a bird
Edit: the bird in the picture is a common redpoll. They are sub-Arctic birds who aren't always seen this far south but are irrupting in this area this year because the supply of birch catkins -- their favorite food -- is low further up north. There were a lot of them here every day until I stopped filling the bird feeders last week for some reason or other.

Laura's birthday was the last day of winter
because today was Truck Day!
And on another tack entirely, I wonder why on earth the html code for pictures in Blogger always seems to include this text: deselectBloggerImageGracefully ? Is there a way to deselect an image gracelessly, I wonder? and if so, how?

Luke Wins!
He missed nailing it by one point.
Losers-Christina Aquilera and the Black-Eyed Peas. What crap.
And next year there will be a new NFL rule that a receiver has to "control" the ball until the end of the game for a completion.

Super Bowl Contest
Not feeling too excited about the upcoming Super Bowl? I'm not either. So Let's have a contest. Pick the winner and the score. First tiebreaker is absolute deviation from the WINNER's points. Second tie breaker is the absolute deviation from the LOSER's points. Any ties after that split the prize of $20 of NYS scratch tickets. Entries and changes to entries allowed until kickoff. All are welcome.
