Dad Loves Drew Carey

Well I love Mark Steyn.

"Discussing cultural relativism with cultural relativists is like playing tennis with some guy who says, 'your ace is just a social construct.'"

That is one of those hilarious quotes that probably 10 years from now I'll suddenly remember and burst out laughing and then everybody in the room will look at me like I'm crazy.

An Objective Foreign Policy

A couple years outdated, but still very pertinent. It surprised me to find that objectivists are actually MORE militant than neo-cons and Republicans. Reading this reminded me of Jack Bauer. Anyone remember the 24 episode when Jack was at some super-evil guy's house trying to get information, and the guy wouldn't give in, so Jack threatened to shoot his wife in the knee, and the guy still wouldn't give in? Jack Bauer, of course, being Jack Bauer, shot the wife in the knee. In that scenario, Jack's action is justifiable because his job is to save American lives. All of the moral responsibility for the wife's damaged knee rests on her super-evil husband, not on Jack.

Anyway I'm not entirely sold on this stuff, but it makes a lot more sense than most of everything else out there.

Anybody know if 24 is gonna come back on soon?

Dog in a Winter Wonderland

Ice Age?

We have much more to fear from the planet cooling than we do from it warming. Times when the planet has been warmer than usual are associated with prosperity. Times when it has been cooler than usual are associated with famine and disease. Read this. All of it.

Man adds one molecule of carbon dioxide to every 100,000 molecules in the atmosphere. Every five years. You can worry about your carbon footprint if you want, but you are wasting your time.

When it finally becomes apparent that global warming is a hoax perpetrated by people who are just sure that man must be doing terrible terrible damage to our small and fragile planet, remember where you heard it first.

Swooning for Obama

Women are passing out listening to Obama speak. Reportedly, it's not what he says so much as the way he says it. This phenomenon was last seen at Beatle's concerts in the early sixties. I wonder what effect it would have if he grew his hair and started playing the guitar.

A Comment I Read On a Blog About the Mayor...

of Toledo, the City Council of Berkeley, and the Marines:

"It takes a special sort of ingrate to disrespect people who are risking their lives defending you. Don't think the war is right? Take it out on the civilian leadership you elected.
Did you notice that the Berkeley bunch didn't attempt to secede from the union because they didn't agree with the war? They didn't send the Berkeley Police Department to try to arrest the president. That would take courage and honor and commitment. Not those weasels. They sent a letter, and give the lunatic fringe preferred parking. Regular profiles in courage, that lot."

The commenter was MarkD. The blog was Weazel Zippers.

All I can add is: Bingo!

I Love Drew Carey

The "middle class" is getting "squeezed." Yes, it's terrible. If only we could live as well as our parents did, alas. Boo Hoo! Boo Hoo! We're all just so poor.

Check out the delivery of the news from CNN. No drama there, eh?

Some stunning photographs

Not very many. So check 'em out.

Also, check out Michael David Murphy's wide edit of some campaign shots from the South Carolina Democratic primary. Scroll to the right..Check Hillary out in yellow with scattered hands in the air. Great pic!

Where do all the unnecessary Quotation Marks go?

To the blog of Unnecessary Quotation Marks, of course.
Uh oh.

May the Constitution be Damned

Here's two articles on the current Roger Clemens' rights being grossly violated situation:

"Burden of Proof is on Clemens."

Physical Evidence Against Clemens.

I don't care whether or not Roger Clemens used steroids, and Congress shouldn't care either. So Stephen Lynch says the burden of proof is on Clemens? The way I see it, the burden of proof is on Stephen Lynch to show whether or not he still deserves the right to exist. It would be morally justified for Clemens to kill him, and no, I am not exaggerating.

Happy birthday, dear Laura,

How's this?

Super Bowl and Ads

A strange silence from the Murphies about, like, the Mets getting Santana, and, like, the RS hanging on to our young players, and, like, pitchers and catchers reporting soon. Also, no Super Bowl comments. I thought it was the best SB ever. No 95 yard TD runs brought back because someone said, "Nyah! Nyah!" to an opposing player. And. I thought the ads were great. If you didn't see them, they can be watched here. I really liked the puking baby and the screaming critters.
